WHO WE ARE:
We are always Amy Butchko, often Sam Buffa, and once Zeb Stewart (Frenchette); old friends and autodidacts who have worked in, owned, occasionally been asked to leave, and in general thoroughly enjoyed bars & restaurants around the world. We approach our projects with the sense of an operator and the enthusiasm of customer, viewed through the lens of a critic. We are selective in taking on clients, as we give ourselves fully to whatever it is we commit to—and have been lucky enough to receive much satisfaction in return.
WHAT WE DO:
We appreciate honest spaces—ones that feel lived in, unplanned, comfortable-yet-surprising, and inspiring. We welcome happy accidents. Timelessness is the key to our kingdom, intuition is our guiding light (but exactitude is the coin of the realm). We endeavor to imbue our projects with both fresh perspectives and scads of antiques, and above all to transport to places unimagined all who enter.
We work with your team from conception through completion, and call upon our deep network of collaborators and fabricators to create designs that are layered, complex, and memorable. Our process is organic, conducted in large part in situ; we listen to the songs sung by buildings’ bones, and harmonize.
With technical proficiency complementing contemporary eyes paired with knowledge of code and a feel for flow, we are equipped to create spaces large or small that command attention--and improve with age.
